Fullerton College is closely monitoring an outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Fullerton College will use this website to communicate developing changes to our college community related to COVID-19. Students and employees are encouraged to check back regularly as progress is made to retool most services and instruction into virtual formats.

The State of California’s COVID-19 website provides many resources such as health care, unemployment, rent protection and many other services to help Californians during this difficult time.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises that the best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to this virus. Here are everyday actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Q: How can I access student support services?
A: All services have transition remotely. Please visit the Remote Student Services website for more information.
Q: Where can I find information on Canvas and how to take online/remote classes?
A: There are many resources to help students learn the college’s online learning management system called Canvas and to transition to remote learning. The mission of the Distance Education Department is to support the success of Fullerton College students who use educational technology and that is more important than ever before. All students are encouraged and welcome to take a Canvas course “Becoming an Effective Remote Learner.” This is not the students’ instructional courses. This is to help students get ready for the transition of their classes to web-based formats.
Q: Is this transition to remote learning going to diminish the value of my degree?
A: No. There will be no distinction made on transcripts that indicate the delivery method of coursework.
Q: How long will this change last?
A: Fullerton College will offer courses remotely throughout the spring semester.
Q: The transition to online learning is difficult, and I am not sure I want to continue this semester. What are my options?
A: We understand that many students are facing challenges during this time and for reasons beyond their control. Students enrolled for the Spring 2020 semester are encouraged to remain in their classes. The faculty, staff, and administration at Fullerton College are here to support you. Here are tips to follow if you need help.
Q: I want to drop my classes and get a refund. How do I do that?
A: Students may withdraw from their class(es) and qualify for refunds including enrollment fees, if a student needs to withdraw due to an epidemic or other extraordinary conditions. Students may withdraw from their class(es) on myGateway. It will be recorded as an excused withdrawal (EW) on transcripts. An EW due to extraordinary conditions does not affect a student’s academic progress, academic probation, or ability to repeat a course. Please read further to understand all the implications of an EW.
Q: I want a refund for my parking and health fees. Will I be getting my money back?
A: Yes, students will receive checks in the mail with a 59 percent prorated refund for parking and health fees. This process is labor-intensive and is expected to take a few weeks.
Q: Are there any changes to Financial Aid that I need to know about?
A: Students will continue to have access to financial aid resources, including those from student loans. The Federal government is actively at work at emergency legislation that will change some Financial Aid regulations temporarily, due to COVID-19. Q: What resources are available to undocumented students?
A: The California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office has compiled a website with many resources that support undocumented students. Read more. The Grads To Be Program at Fullerton College is also providing remote services to students while the campus is closed.
Q: I don’t have my own computer. Can I borrow one from the college?
A: Yes. Fullerton College purchased 1,700 laptops to help students complete their remote learning while social distancing requirements continue through the spring semester. Laptops will be distributed to students on a first-come basis. Students may request a laptop by filling out a brief form which they can access at the following link: Request Technology Support
Q: I don’t have reliable internet connection. Can you help me access Wi-Fi?
A: The California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office has compiled information on several companies are providing reduced cost or free internet access to ensure students have access to reliable internet service. The Fullerton College Library has also updated its website with a list of many resources. Read more.
Q: Are there any known cases of COVID-19 at Fullerton College?
A: One student reported to the college that they received confirmation from the Orange County Health Care Agency that they tested positive. That student is recovering at home and was participating in Study Abroad and was not on campus. There are other self-reports that have not been confirmed by public health agencies. Read more…
Q: What is the risk level at Fullerton College?
A: According to the Orange County Health Agency there is now epidemiological evidence of community transmission in Orange County, indicating that COVID-19 is spreading in the community, which is why we have taken drastic measures to create social distancing for our students and employees.

Q: What if I am sick?
A: Anyone who is sick, especially those who are experiencing symptoms of the flu or COVID-19, should stay home and consult with their personal physician. Students should notify their instructor if they need to miss class. Anyone concerned that they may be experiencing symptoms are recommended to follow the steps of the CDC Coronavirus Self Checker https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/testing.html.
Q: What if I am tested for COVID-19, receive a positive result or I am directed to self-quarantine by my health care provider?
A: If you are a student, please call the Student Health Center at 714-992-7093 as soon as possible. Employees should contact their immediate management supervisor.
Q: What should students do if they miss class due to illness or worry about coming to campus?
A: There is no single campus policy on either absence or late assignments. These are the purview of each individual faculty. If you are unsure, please email your faculty.

Just like always, Fullerton College librarians are here to help with research! We may just have to do it a little bit differently than before. In consideration of the safety of our campus community during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are now extending our research support services to remote, internet-based solutions. Rapid Remote Teaching for Faculty
Fullerton College is preparing to support remote teaching and learning including continuity training, should this become necessary. Our Distance Education office has been planning and organizing a variety of ways to support remote teaching and learning.
Instructional continuity refers to the campus effort to continue course work during possible disruptions due to weather, illness, or other factors. Strategies for maintaining Instructional Continuity include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Making plans for communicating with students
- Considering possible adjustments to assignments
- Implementing technologies such as online audio and video collaboration, lecture capture, or discussion boards
In response to the outbreak of a new strain of Coronavirus, Fullerton College is working to ensure the health and safety of our campus community.
Faculty can prepare to teach their courses remotely via Canvas in the event of a disruption by reviewing the tools and strategies outlined on the Distance Education website. If you need support with any of these tools or strategies, contact your distance education division representative.
Students who feel scared or vulnerable in the event of a crisis may value the opportunity to process the crisis as part of a community, so consider adjusting course plans to include opportunities for discussion and reflections.

Maintenance and Operations
The Maintenance and Operations department has been utilizing best practices regarding cleaning and disinfecting working and learning spaces on our campus for some time. It is the standard operating procedures of custodial staff to follow CDC and EPA guidelines, when they disinfect all bathrooms, all classrooms and highly trafficked areas on a nightly basis at the college. These standards are important for the general and ongoing health of the college community.
Additional disinfectant items such as wipes and free standing hand sanitizers for staff and students will be placed around the campus as soon as supplies are available.
Specifically, custodial staff utilize Disinfectants: ACE 256 it is a Quaternary Ammonium Compound as well as a Multi surface Viricide/Sanitizer (Envirox) these two are the chemicals that are used on all touch surfaces and restrooms. Custodial staff also use a bowl cleaner called Kick and Crew mild acid RTU (Ready to use) as well as a RTU Comet disinfectant in the locker rooms of the 1700 and 1200 buildings specifically for the shower stalls. The college currently has and adequate supply of all listed chemicals and all dispensers are filled with disinfectants and sanitizers.
