Fullerton College was notified on Friday, June 12 that a contractor servicing the fire alarm systems in the 700 and 900 buildings tested positive for COVID-19. The contractor was on campus on June 3 and June 4 and was in contact with nine employees of Fullerton College. In addition, two employees performed work in the area where the contractor had worked, but did not have any direct contact with the contractor.
All eleven employees have been notified and advised to self-quarantine until June 18. June 18 marks the end of the 14-day period recommended by the CDC to self-quarantine if one is exposed to COVID-19. The employees have not experienced symptoms. The contractor was wearing a mask throughout the visit to campus.
The contractor began experiencing symptoms on June 5 and tested positive on June 8. His employer contacted the college on June 12, setting in motion the North Orange County Community College District’s contact tracing notification protocol.
A limited amount of essential employees report to work on campus since the college closure went into effect March 15. When other employees or contractors need to be on campus, they are required to check in at Campus Safety, so a record is kept of work spaces that need to be disinfected by custodial staff. Employees are required to wear masks while on campus.
Out of additional caution, the Campus Safety Department and the 700 and 900 buildings were closed on June 12, to receive additional disinfecting.
Employees who are experiencing symptoms of the flu or COVID-19, should stay home and consult with their personal physician. Students should notify their instructor if they need to miss class. If a student tests positive they are asked to call the Student Health Center at 714-992-7093 as soon as possible. Employees should contact their immediate management supervisor.
